Beijing Community on Lockdown After Latest COVID-19 Case

As we reported on Tuesday, Beijing recorded its first locally transmitted case of COVID-19 in 21 days. The case was traced back to the ongoing outbreak in Liaoning. In an attempt to contain further spread, the city locked down the community where the latest patient lived on Tuesday.

In response, Beijing also raised its emergency response level from Level III to II and announced plans to test all 7,000 homes (located in roughly 30 buildings) in the neighborhood, starting with the building where the patient lived. Two nucleic acid testing sites have been set up in the area and are actively testing members of the community. The mass testing began at 5am on Tuesday. Over 2,000 tests had already been conducted as of 12pm Tuesday.

According to Global Times, the restricted area is the Tiantongyuan West No.3 community in Changping district. The patient was staying in a 30-story building, which is now under complete lockdown. All residents are required to quarantine at home. Visitors and delivery are both restricted.
