According to the Guangdong Earthquake Bureau, the quake hit Zengcheng district, and its epicenter occurred at a depth of 12.79 kilometers. Some residents claimed to have felt the effects of the small quake, with one person posting on Weibo, “No wonder I felt tremors last night. It’s my first time experiencing [an earthquake]. I wasn’t sure whether it was an earthquake or if I was just making a big fuss over something minor.” However, others noted that they didn’t feel a thing.
This is the second earthquake to occur in Zengcheng district this month, and the fourth to hit Guangzhou since May. Earlier this month, a 2.7-magnitude quake hit Zengcheng, which brought about tremors in four Guangzhou districts as well as neighboring Dongguan.
