It's Officially Termite Season in Shanghai

That's right, it's termite season in Shanghai. Unfortunately, the hot and muggy weather we experienced last week brought about prime conditions for those pesky insects, Shine reports.

Termites have officially invaded the city – and they're not going anywhere anytime soon. Shanghai's annual termite season usually occurs around May 15. This year, the insects began swarming the city and invading houses on May 19. With the imminent arrival of the plum rain season, expect the termite situation to get even worse around June 10. The insects typically start to dissapate in early July. According to exterminators, the flying pests are most active from noon to 3pm.

Termites also love wood, which means residents living in Shanghai's old wooden houses will likely get some unwelcome visitors this summer. If you're house is getting swarmed, try covering cracks in doors and walls. If that doesn't help, it might be time to call an exterminator.
