Whooooooo! Did you hear that? That was the collective sound of steak houses and aficionados around China offering praise to the cult of meat .
According to Reuter's and The Epoch Times, China quietly agreed to lift its ban on American beef, which has been in place since 2003, which could mean the opening up of a market that, according the the National Cattleman's Beef Association (yea, A-MER-ica), says could be worth more than USD100 million. Thatsa a lot of moo-lah.
In return, China wants the United States to open it's borders to the import of raw chicken, which was shut partly in retaliation for the crazy cow veto, partly because China was wrestling with its own health issues (cough, cough - avian flu).
If this goes all the way through, we could see restaurants steer-ing towards grain-fed USDA steaks within the year, and to that, we say cheers.
