Shanghai's rainy season sees no sign of letting up. In the past 40 days, the seemingly endless drizzling has broken several records in the city's weather history, reports Shine.

The sun has been absent for a quite long time. According to the statistics released by the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau yesterday, the daily sunshine hours in January set a new low. In Shanghai's outskirt areas like Jiading and Baoshan, the sunshine duration each day amounts to less than two hours, while in downtown areas, the figure descends to zero.

Meanwhile, both precipitation and the number of rainy days have reached a new high. The Xujiahui Meteorological Centre has witnessed the most rainy days for downtown area since its establishment in 1862. While in suburban regions, the rainfall has tripled the average amount.

Residents woke up today to more rainfall. "If your baby was born after New Year, then he/she probably still doesn't know what the sun looks like," joked one netizen on NetEase. "I'm running out of clothes to change," whined another. "Since most of my wardrobe is still wet."

If it's any comfort, it seems the cold and wet will temporarily leave us this weekend, and we are likely to see the sun on Monday (finally!). That being said, the rainfall will quickly find its way back on Tuesday, and bring with it another drop in temperature. The mercury is slated to decline to zero. Here's a glimpse of the weather forecast for the following days:
