In a horrific accident, which took place in Nanshan District, Shenzhen, an elderly man was knocked over by a car and pinned underneath it. In a heart-warming turn of events, however, a group of passersby quickly rushed to lift the car up, saving him from what might have been a tragic death.

The incident unfolded on Shigu Lu at around 10.30pm on December 14, when a car suddenly lost control and sped towards one side of the road, hitting an 82-year-old man, surnamed Feng, while also hitting four vehicles parked nearby. The driver was allegedly drunk at the time of the accident, according to Sohu.com.

“The man fell almost instantly and then I began to hear screaming from under the car,” said a Mr. Li, who witnessed the accident happen.

Li and approximately 10 other do-gooders swiftly came to the elderly man’s aid, lifting the crashed vehicle and freeing Feng. The liberated senior was then transported to hospital. The driver, however, remained in his car until police had arrived, “fearing that he would get beaten up,” according to Li.

The senior was seen bleeding while being moved from the car, but still managed to maintain consciousness, telling Mr. Li he was “okay.”

Unfortunately, that proved to be an overstatement, as, according to the man’s wife, surnamed Xu, he suffered a broken leg, brain damage and multiple other injuries, and was still being monitored in an ICU room as of December 17.

Xu said she had been taking a walk with her husband before the accident. She returned home first, only to hear about the grisly incident shortly after. “The drunk driver should be seriously punished,” Xu said, while also expressing her gratitude towards the helpful passersby.

Currently, the driver has been detained by police for driving while intoxicated and is awaiting further investigation.

In an almost indentical accident, which took place in Yunnan on November 30, an elderly woman was trapped under a car after it hit her and, just like the elderly man, was saved by a group of passersby.
