A man in Yiwu, Zhejiang province who broke into a stranger's home and stole 20,000 yuan ($3,270) was arrested after he left an IOU with his name, address and phone number on it.

The man, surnamed Peng, is originally from Sichuan province but has lived in Yiwu for a number of years. Under pressure from his parents to send money home, he headed to the home of a fellow Sichuanese to borrow money. As no one was home, Peng broke in and took the money from a drawer, leaving an IOU to explain what he'd done

While taking money without asking on the basis that the "lender" is from the same geographical area as you is pretty damn presumptious*, Peng's actions were made significantly worse when it turned out he had the wrong house. He in fact robbed a Henanese man, who promptly called the police.

Peng told police he didn't think he'd broken the law since, you know, he did leave an IOU.
