A fire broke out at the Grand Mercure Oriental Ginza in Shenzhen’s Futian District last night at 9.20pm. Videos of the inferno surfaced on social media almost immediately, showing flames billowing around the top floors of the upscale business and leisure hotel.
Fire services were alerted right away and more than 78 firefighters and 18 fire engines from nearby stations were dispatched. Emergency services quickly arrived on the scene to combat the blaze raging in the upper floors of the hotel, CCTV News reported.
Shenzhen Traffic Police stated that the fire is believed to have originated from billboards at the top of the hotel, before spreading to the ceiling of the upper floors. Using water, firefighters were able to get the blaze under control and prevent the flames from spreading to other parts of the building.
The fire was extinguished just after 10pm yesterday evening, with the Shenzhen Traffic Police confirming that there were no casualties through their official Weibo account.
