Heavy rain in Guangzhou was a trending topic on Weibo yesterday (#广州暴雨). People from all over Guangzhou were posting videos and pictures of their ‘waterfront’ view.
One photo, in particular, took the internet by storm (no pun intended). Guangzhou’s Baiyun International Airport appeared to be functioning as a lake yesterday afternoon as planes circled above. One person (@叶陆BiuBiuBiu) commented, “Congratulations Baiyun airport on the addition of Baiyun wharf, you’ve become the country’s first airport to integrate air, land and sea.”
As Guangzhou has been battered with heavy rain and thunderstorms over the past two months, the next six days are slated for more of the same.
According to Dongfang Weather, thunderstorms and rainfall will hammer Guangzhou from August 23 to 29, and people are reminded to commute with a level of caution.
For many, this weather is nothing new. July and August alone bring on average 450 millimeters of rainfall per year. For those with plans this weekend, hopefully they are indoor events.
