China's first ever moon rover is on its way to the lunar surface after a successful launch early Monday morning.
The Chang'e-3 spacecraft, aboard a Long-March 3B rocket, blasted off from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in Sichuan province at 1.30am on Monday. Zhang Zhengzhong, director of the centre, declared the launch a "success" after the lunar probe entered the earth-moon transfer orbit and unfolded its solar panels.
The Change'3, along with the Yutu (Jade Rabbit) moon rover is due to soft-land on the moon in mid-December.
