Some parts of the ruins in Sichuan have been preserved as a memorial for the dead, with the destroyed areas remaining abandoned. Xuankou Middle School in Yingxiu Town, which was at the epicenter, remains untouched to this day. A clock sculpture has since been placed on the steps leading up to the ruins, with the minute and hour hands indicating the exact moment the quake struck (2.28pm). An official memorial ceremony was held there on May 12.
