At 5.48am, a signal malfunctioned on Shanghai Metro Line 2. The impacted area stretched from Shanghai Science and Technology Museum Station to Guanglan Road Station. The technical glitch, which took several hours to fix, caused massive delays during this morning’s rush hour.

Swarms of stranded commuters were seen in and around stations along Line 2. The malfunction also caused delays at stations that connect with Line 2.

Passengers heading to Pudong International Airport were instructed to take the Maglev Line at Longyang Road Station while repairs were conducted. In addition, shuttles were provided to ease congestion and ferry commuters from Longyang Road to Chuangxin Road M.

Passengers who were impacted by the delays can go to any subway station and get a refund for their tickets within seven working days.

The issue was officially resolved around 10.25am, according to the Metro operator.
