A 41-year-old woman is dead after a city bus plowed into four taxis at the eastern square of Guangzhou Railway Station on January 13, according to Guangzhou Public Security Bureau.
The incident happened at 11am, when the runaway vehicle – a No. 529 bus – collided with four cabs, initially wounding three (the aforementioned victim later died of her injuries, currently leaving two injured).
Authorities quickly implemented emergency response procedures, according to local reports, and Yuexiu District’s police and fire departments immediately dispatched teams to the scene.
The deceased, a Guangzhou native surnamed He, was transported by first responders to a local hospital, where she died of her injuries.
Police carried out a urine test on the driver of the rogue bus, a 57-year-old Guangzhouer surnamed Chen, and have ruled out drugs and alcohol as the cause of the accident. The crash remains under investigation.
This is the second incident of a runaway bus in Guangzhou in the past three months. Back in late October, two people were killed and four more wounded after a bus mounted the sidewalk and ploughed into pedestrians in Yuexiu District.
