Shanghai Man Jailed for Pimping Foreign Prostitutes

A Shanghainese man has been given a nine-month prison sentence for pimping foreign women, Shine reports.

The man, identified only by his surname (Wang), is in his 50s and unemployed, with seven previous convictions on his record. According to Shine, Wang had housed and solicited over 10 prositutes from Southeast Asia between April and July of this year, taking a cut of their earnings during that period.

The business started when Wang encountered a woman at a bar in April. After she informed him that she had several women from her country that were visiting China to prostitute themselves, he said that he had many friends working as pimps locally.

Wang housed the women, all in their 20s, at a rented flat on Datong Lu in Jing'an district and marketed them on WeChat. He told the women to pretend to be Korean to attract more customers. Each of them were on one-month travel visas.

Wang was also fined RMB10,000 in addition to being put behind bars.
