On the morning of October 31, a shared bike user was crushed by a bus near the Taojin Metro Station and Garden Hotel in Guangzhou’s Yuexiu District, according to xkb.com.

The unfortunate cyclist was riding an Ofo on the street when he collided with a biker approaching from the opposite direction. After being knocked over, he was run over by a Guangzhou city bus and, tragically, died at the scene. The street where he'd been riding had no bike lanes, The Paper reported.

According to Guangzhou traffic police, medical personnel rushed to the site of the accident but were unable to save the man. The cyclist who collided with the deceased fled the scene afterwards.

A sanitation worker who passed by the site of the accident told reporters that by the time first responders showed up the victim, who appeared to be approximately 30 years old, was "motionless.” He added that someone covered the deceased with newspaper afterwards.

Ofo is cooperating with the investigation into the accident and providing “relevant information” to the Guangzhou Traffic Control Department. The company also noted that it provides all users with accident insurance, and that it will reach out to the family of the deceased.
