The Guangzhou Metro has grand expansion plans ahead, with 10 additional lines slated to open over the next six years, according to the city’s official transportation plan.

On September 30, Guangzhou Metro announced that 81.4 kilometers would be added to the network by the end of this year.

If all goes according to plan, the first phase of Line 9 will be completed this December, along with the initial section of Line 13, the southern extension of Line 4 from Jinzhou to Nansha Ferry Port and the Knowledge City Line from Xinhe to Zhenlong.

By early 2018, Guangzhou’s metro network will cover a whopping 350 kilometers, according to IRJ. Click here to see how it will look by 2020.

The Guangzhou Metro has seen a number of new developments so far this year. Controversial female-priority cars were added earlier this summer, along with extra mobile payment options, including the recent addition of Apple Pay. New security measures have also been introduced, with X-ray machines rolling out tomorrow, October 10.
