Carlos Tevez Too Fat to Play, Says New Shenhua Boss

New Shanghai Shenhua boss Wu Jingui has offered a withering appraisal (bloated criticism?) of Carlos Tevez, saying the Argentina star is too overweight to turn out in Saturday night's Shanghai Derby.

The former Manchester United and City star has just returned from injury after recuperating in his native Argentina, but Wu says home country living has been too good to him.

"I won’t pick him right now," said Wu, who took over from Gus Poyet, who resigned this week. "He's not ready physically. He's not fit to play."

And Tevez is not the only one, apparently.

"[Tevez] is overweight, along with [Fredy] Guarin," Wu continued. "I have to take responsibility for the team and the players as well. If you are unable do your utmost to play, there's no point in picking you."

Tevez joined the Chinese Super League side from Boca Juniors amid huge fanfare in December, due to a contract reportedly worth GBP32 million a year - or a pound a second.

He was a disappointment from the outset though. Shenhua currently lie 12th in the 16 team league, Tevez having played 15 games and scoring just two goals. He has regularly been linked with a return to Boca Juniors.
