In honor of the fact that the number of international subscribers has surpassed that of its domestic ones for the first time, Netflix has green-lit its first Chinese-language original series

Directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Sam Quah and slated for an eight-episode run, Bardo (擺渡身) will tell the story of Ah Quan, an inmate who escapes from prison after learning his son is in danger.

In April 2017, Netflix signed a licensing deal with domestic streaming site iQiyi to share its hit shows like Stranger Things and Black Mirror, so this foray into original Chinese language content seems to be the next logical step.
