1 Woman Dead, Another Injured in Guangzhou Knife Attack

One woman is dead and another injured after a knife attack last night in Zhujiang New Town, according to a Guangzhou Public Security Bureau announcement carried by Tencent News.

The incident occurred around 8.20pm on a greenway at the intersection of Liede Dadao and Huacheng Dadao. Tianhe police were “quickly deployed to the scene.”

Responding officers, with the help of nearby security guards, were able to apprehend the suspect: a 37-year-old male from Sichuan province. He carried two knives.

Medical personnel pronounced one of the women dead onsite and transported the surviving victim to hospital for treatment.

Police are currently investigating the attack and no motive has been released by authorities.
