Shanghai SIPG record signing Oscar has been banned for eight games by the Chinese Football Association for sparking a mass brawl with Guangzhou R&F in last weekend's Chinese Super League game.

The decision is sure to raise eyebrows, given that the Brazilian did not take part in the brawl, and no disciplinary action was taken against him at the time. Shanghai's Fu Huan was also given a six game ban, while Guangzhou's Chen Zhizhao and Li Tixiang were given seven and five game bans respectively for their part in the incident.

Oscar's punishment was for "unsportsmanlike conduct and bringing the game into disrepute", with a report into the incident stating: "The club and player should have a profound understanding of the difficulty in developing Chinese football and the importance of having a cultured competition."

The fight (which you can watch in full below) broke out on Sunday after the former Chelsea midfielder kicked the ball twice into Guangzhou players near the end of the first half.

The R&F players were clearly not happy with this, with Chen Zhizhao pushing Oscar to the ground.

Shortly afterwards, all 22 players on the field embarked on a mass brawl between the two teams. Substitutes and coaches from both sides were also involved. As punches were thrown, some SIPG players — including fellow Brazilian teammate Hulk — ran over to protect Oscar.

The fight disrupted the game for seven minutes. Two players, Guangzhou’s Li Tixiang and Shanghai’s Fu Huan, were sent off the field, though Oscar wasn't punished.
