Project name: Poly WeDo Education Institution
Location: Yongli International Plaza, Sanlitun
Building area: 1,300sqm
Design company: Archstudio
Architects: Han Wenqiang, Wang Ying and Li Yuntao
The brief: Archstudio was tasked with designing a new teaching space for the education company Poly WeDo. Located in Sanlitun, the new center focuses on arts and music education, so the owners wanted the environment to encourage free thinking and creative teaching.

Music classrooms are soundproofed with layers of glass, wood and aluminum plating.

Bamboo plants and other greenery soften the design’s harder edges, giving the indoor space an outdoor feel.

Classrooms are based on an idea the designers describe as an “indoor village,” featuring a variety of textures and shapes.

Keeping the original ceiling in the theater, designers added sound-absorbing wood panels for acoustic purposes.

Many of the original concrete walls were removed to create more open spaces, connecting classrooms with public areas.
