According to a post on mavs.com, the official website for the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA), six ladies representing the Dallas Mavericks Dancers (DMD) will be headed to the Pearl River Delta on June 7 to perform at the NBA Finals celebration party in Guangzhou.

The official press release from the Mavericks states: “Their itinerary also includes meet and greets, autograph signings, and photo sessions, all with the goal of making the 8,000 miles between Dallas and Guangzhou feel just a little shorter for local fans.”

The decision to send a representative of the team to an event in China continues the trend of strategic investment in China on behalf of the Mavericks. With a population north of one billion, each NBA franchise covets popularity in China, but the Mavericks have taken exceptional steps to help cement their popularity in the Far East.

The Mavs drafted former Bayi Rockets star Wang Zhizhi in 1999 and made him the first Chinese to ever play in the NBA, beating out his more famous countryman Yao Ming to the punch by over a season. The Mavericks then signed 23-year-old Ding Yanyuhang, a star in the CBA but a lightly regarded NBA prospect, to a developmental league contract in 2017 in a move that did much to build basketball and business bridges.

The six Dallas Mavericks Dancers traveling to Guangzhou are: Ashley, Bebe, Brooke, Janae, Maggie, and Taylor.
