Two hungry kuaidi were taken into custody recently for allegedly stealing, slaughtering and eating a black swan from Xujiahui Park.

The two arrested, surnamed Zhou and Wang, wanted to steal fish from the park's pond, according to the police. Patrolling guards scared them off and when they were leaving the park, Zhou spotted a black swan near the exit. He caught it and choked the bird to keep it silent. The whole incident took place at 1am on April 20 and remains under investigation, reports Shanghai Daily.

All this madness was anti-climactic, as the duo claim to not even like the taste of the swan.

Locals flocked to Xujiahui Park yesterday to see the remaining four swans, clearly baffled and upset that such a cruel act could be done to the beautiful creature. The birds have been the main attraction here for years, especially with children.

Luckily for the two, their crime didn't take place in the United Kingdom, where all wild mute swans without a mark belong to the Monarch. Killing them can lead to six months behind bars or a GBP5,000 fine

This isn’t the first time an animal was brutally killed in a Shanghai park. Back in 2016, a security guard at Minhang Park beat a dog to death and drowned the pet in a fountain.
