A shop owner was hacked to death and allegedly beheaded on February 18 after a dispute with a customer over increasing the price of his noodles.

Wuhan police released an official statement on their Weibo account saying that the incident happened at around noon on Saturday. The attacker, a 22-year-old Sichuan man surnamed Hu, grabbed a kitchen knife and killed Yao Mouzhuo after he tried to charge an extra RMB1 for each of the three bowls of fried noodles Hu had ordered.

Witnesses said that the victim was a 42-year-old Hubei native with a 13-year-old son that he raised alone after divorcing from his wife five years ago.

A 78-year-old female witness said she watched the entire event unfold after hearing the quarrel. She tried to persuade Hu to drop his knife, but he refused.

Graphic pictures circulating online showed blood splattered around the shop.

The suspect was immediately arrested and the case is under review. A family member told media that Hu had mental issues.
