Spotlight: Tera Feng, Fashion Buyer and Stylist

Spotlight is a regular series where we feature a prominent person in the style scene. This month we speak with Tera Feng, fashion buyer and stylist. 

Traveling around the world to attend different fashion shows has been part of Tera Feng’s life since 2013, when the Shanghai-based fashion buyer and stylist founded Kuan Concept Showroom, a jewelry concept showroom in Hong Kong. Always sharply dressed for every occasion, Feng tells us about her personal style and what items are hot and trendy this winter.

When did you fall in love with fashion? 
When I was young, I used to practice Chinese calligraphy and traditional painting with my grandfather. It taught me how to appreciate the beauty of art, and these memories helped shape my style and fashion aesthetics. 

What types of jewelry do you select for your showroom?
I’m drawn to designers and labels that highlight age-old craftsmanship – especially contemporary, timeless pieces.

Where can people find jewelry that you procure on behalf of Kuan Concept Showroom? 
We’re collaborating with museums like Shanghai’s Power Station of Art, as well as lifestyle concept platforms such as ZUCZUGand iliangcang.com. In the future, we’d like to find more designers who specialize in traditional Chinese craftsmanship and turn their work into wearable accessories that can also double as modern art pieces. 

Who’s your favorite Chinese designer?
Uma Wang. I really like the artistic approach she takes with her design. It marries the subtlety and elegance of the East very well, not to mention her penchant for high quality Italian fabric. 

How would you describe your personal style?
I like to mix and match. For example, I often like putting Eastern and Western elements or vintage and contemporary styles together. I mostly buy clothes and accessories at outlets and boutique stores and I don’t usually go for things that are from the newest collection this season – good design, regardless if it’s new or old, should be able to withstand the test of time. Jewelry pieces are also an important part of my look, and I think they’re a good indicator of one’s taste. 

Name one item that everyone should have in the closet.
White sneakers. They’re super multifunctional; you can wear them in many casual occasions or even to parties or fashion shows. 

Is there anything that you will never wear?
Miniskirts; I don’t think there’s a way to wear them in an elegant way.
