Between the months of April and June, the villagers set out on boats to catch fish and harvest seaweed. Once collected, they hang the seaweed up on sheets of bamboo to dry.
Tourists can collect seaweed and enjoy boat rides in Xiapu. Some say it is the most charming fishing village in all of China — making it an attractive China bucketlist destination for travelers.
Xiapu is also home to the largest mudflat in the country, with 40 square kilometers and more than 400 kilometers of coastline.
The rural village is a five-hour car journey from Xiamen.
