London-based sculptor Wendy Taylor CBE was shocked to find a replication of her 1973 work Timepiece, an image of a sundial, replicated on the banks of the Huangpu.

The one and only work sits near the Tower Bridge and was created as a tribute to the Docklands, and the dock where her family worked for many years. Up until recently that is... sent a photo of the replicated piece in Shanghai with the photographer asking if it was her creation, she responded with a shocked no.

Upon first glance, Ms. Taylor thought it was just a photocopy. Giving it a double take she then realized the China sculpture is almost an exact replica, except for the fact that it faces a different direction.

Unfortunately, although the sculptor, who was made a CBE by the Queen in 1988 for her contribution to British art, has contacted artists' rights organization Dacs and both the UK and Chinese governments, there is most likely nothing she can do as copyright law pretty much stops in Europe.

She is the second British artist to feel the pangs of plagiarism. In 2006 a similar sculpture to Anish Kapoor's Cloud Gate appeared in the Chinese city of Karamay.
