Here's some food for thought: Shanghai now has a community fridge.
And what is that exactly? Established on Sunday off Puxiong Road, it aims to cut food waste and help residents in need. Well done Shanghai.
The 'fridge' is open to anyone, from elderly residents to those who might have 'forgotten their school lunch', all that's needed is a simple registration.
Co-launched by the Puxiong Community and Shanghai Oasis Public Service Development, the actual food stockpile is located in a community reading room for the elderly and stocked by two local supermarkets near to it, a restaurant and food bank.
This particular location is sponsored by Changshou Funds of Changshou, but if successful, it will spread to 34 other communities in the subdistrict.
For residents out yonder who have forgotten to pack their snacks or need a bite to eat (and have registered), goods can be grabbed from 8.30-11.30am and 1.30-5pm at the site which is run and taken care of by five volunteers.
