An old iPad, an iPhone 6 and a live-broadcasting app is all it took for one young woman to make about RMB20,000 in a month. Her sexy shows have also landed her in criminal detention.
The woman was detained in Shenzhen on August 18 for live broadcasting masturbation sessions, according to multiple media reports, including one on ettoday.com. Live broadcasting apps allow viewers anywhere in the world to shell out cash if they like what they see, but strict anti-pornography laws in Chinese mainland mean most broadcasters stay on the tame side.
It’s reportedly the first case of Shenzhen police detaining anyone for using an app to broadcast pornographic content.
Long Mei's blurred image has appeared in media.
The woman, variously described as 18-years-old or 19-years-old in media reports, was identified as Long Mei and is being held under criminal detention for spreading pornography.
Living with her boyfriend, she began broadcasting in July after graduating from school and being unable to find work, according to police.
Acting on information provided by the app, police went to an apartment in Nanshan where Long Mei admitted to performing the shows.
Police seized her electronics and “a lot of sexy underwear,” according to ettoday.com.
In August 2004, a woman in Jiangsu Province was reportedly sentenced to four years in prison for performing 'lewd shows' over the Internet for money.
