Dongguan began trail operations on its first metro line on May 27, finally offering the city's prostitutes a legal way to go deeper underground.
The line, dubbed Line R2, began operation after receiving approval from the local government and will run southwest from Dongguan Railway Station, thru the Exhibition Center, to Humen station, according to International Rail Journal.
The line will cover 37.8 kilometers and be composed of 15 stations; one of which will be above ground. Trains run in 6-10 minute intervals with an end-to-end trip taking 42 minutes, according to the IRJ report.
Service on the inaugural metro line starts every morning at 6.30am and ends at 10.30pm from Monday to Thursday. Trains will run till 11pm on Fridays, weekends and holidays.
A fleet of 20 six-car trains operate the line, according to IRJ, and were supplied by CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Rolling Stock Company under a RMB860 million contract granted in 2012.
Now, you’re probably wondering why the hell the first metro line received the name Line R2 (instead of R1) and, to be honest, it’s a fair question. Unfortunately, we don’t have an answer. What we can tell you though, is that bidding for the construction of Line R1 is now open!
The future line will run 58 kilometers from Wang Hung to Yellow River Central station and will have an interchange with Line 2 at Hongfu Lu. Line R1 will also be operated by six-car trains and will utilize the Line R2 control center, according to IRJ.
