Foshan experienced a rather unique traffic delay last week after two ostriches (read: giraffe-chicken hybrids) took a side-by-side run through morning traffic.
The giant birds, which are flightless, took their morning jog after escaping from a nearby farm, according to local media reports.
Tragically, both of the birds died (as often happens when you run aimlessly down the middle of the road) – one after being hit by a car and the other from stress and injuries it sustained after being “brought to the ground and tied up with an electrical cable.”
The ostriches’ owner, a man surnamed Hong, was contacted by local police to collect the carcasses and he was allegedly warned about better monitoring his livestock.
Hong has had terrible luck when it comes to farming the giant birds, revealing to media outlets that he purchased nine last year for RMB650 each and now has none. Six of his ostriches were reportedly stolen and another died before the great escape last week, leaving him with a grand total of zero birds.
We humbly suggest it may be time for Hong to consider a new profession…
