A man in Taizhou, Jiangsu province reportedly paid more than RMB200,000 in coins for a deposit on two cars in order to impress his wife for 'White Valentine's Day' (which falls on March 14) according to xdkb.
According to an employee at the car dealership, the customer had tried to place the order at a previous car exhibition. He mentioned he had some coins at home, but several banks denied his exchange requests, so he decided to stop by the dealership to see if they'd take his coins instead. Eager to provide proper customer service, the dealership agreed.
Though they were prepared for the coin payment, the staff was still in for a big surprise when the customer opened his trunk. Inside they saw coins packed up in dozens of plastic bags. It took four trips for the customer to deposit some 200 plastic bags of coins.
It took 30 of the dealership's employees more than six hours to count through all the coins. After a while, they eventually gave up counting by hand and used scales instead to weigh all the coins. With the roughly RMB200,000 in pocket change, the man was able to put deposits down on two cars — each worth more than RMB500,000 — for both himself and his wife.
The man supposedly made his fortune on property projects. He said that he had saved coins from early on, but had no idea how many coins he actually had.
