Quancheng Polar Ocean World in Shandong has welcomed the park’s newest additions – an adorable pair of polar bear cubs, the first in the province to be born in captivity, reports Xinhua.

In a sign of good fortune, the cubs are male and female twins, or longfeng tai (dragon and phoenix twins), considered auspicious in Chinese culture.

Mama Bear Shasha gave birth a few days before her due date, but the premature pair – who have yet to be named – are said to be healthy.

Weighing a precious 750 grams at birth, the male cub is reported to be a bit of a sleeper, while his little sister, born three hours later at 666 grams, is the more dynamic of the duo.

They will be nurtured in an incubator for a couple of months and be treated to the aquarium’s best bottle service as they gain strength in time for October’s National Day Holiday, when the cute cubs are sure to elicit cries of ke'ai! a plenty from China’s vacationing masses.
