Did you know that the planet is actually gorgeous when you don't pollute the hell out of it?

That's what a lot of web users have been finding out today with this story about a sinkhole in central China's Hubei Province

In Xuan'en County of the Enshui Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, a 290-meter-deep sinkhole is returning to life and becoming a whimsical "flora and fauna kingdom" after a local company decided to clear the thing up back in January.

For years, the natural wonder had simply been used a garbage bin; but now it's full of cool, fresh air and the perfume of flowers, and butterflies and swallows fill the skies.

Quick to cynicism as ever, netizens argued that the company that did the clean-up was probably just doing so out of selfish financial gain and planned to the fence the sinkhole and charge admission fees. Maybe they're right, but of all the evils of capitalism, providing incentives for cleaning up the environment is probably not one of the biggies.

Despite all the delight and calls of support, however, the most single popular comment on the story was still, dismayingly, "it would be better if they installed an inter-continental ballistic missile base inside instead."

There's just no accounting for humanity...
