A 31-year-old man was arrested last week in Daxing district after he had a sudden urge to dress up as a special forces commando and go for a stroll with a replica sniper rifle, according to a report on Beijing TV.

After finding ammunition in his motorbike, investigators went to his home to discover several other high-quality replica firearms and a stash of ball bearings. Though imitation guns, police said they could still pack a punch.

Or as one policeman put in, whilst being interviewed on Beijing TV: “You could put your eye out with one of those things!” The suspect is now being detained on suspicion of owning lethal weapons and ammunition.

The suspect apparently assembled the guns from parts bought on the internet. Lucky we have people like him to keep the local police on their toes.
