The Great British Online Film Festival may now be letting you stream films from the comfort of your home, but it’s good to get out once in a while. So Anglophile film buffs will be pleased to hear that the British Embassy is celebrating the festival’s launch with a series of screenings at Meridian Space.

Starting this Sunday and running until December 7, each screening will show four or five short films based around a chosen theme. Presented by the UK’s largest short film distributor, Shorts TV, the series aims to “showcase different aspects of quality British film” and will span comedy, drama and much more.

The screenings begin at 5pm this Sunday (November 16) on the theme ‘Your Favourite British Stars’ (we gladly noted the British spelling of ‘favorite’ there) and the star-studded lineup includes Friend Request Pending (Dame Judi Dench), Steve (Colin Firth), The Voorman Problem (Martin Freeman), Inseparable (Benedict Cumberbatch) and New Year’s Eve (Keira Knighley).

The themes for forthcoming Sundays are as follows:

Sunday 23 November: 7-8pm, Animations
Sunday 30 November: 7-8pm, Award-nominated Interesting Stories, including a Q&A with ShortsTV CEO and Producer, Carter Pilcher
Sunday 7 December: 7-8pm, Love Stories

Tickets are priced at a very reasonable RMB40, with discounts available for those buying tickets for multiple sessions (two sessions for RMB60, three for RMB90 and 4 for RMB120 – so we make that RMB30 a session if you go to more than one). Buy your tickets through youpay and visit www.filmisgreat.cn for more information.

If you can’t make it down to any of the screenings (and even if you can), then the festival has made 36 British features and 20 short films available through LeTV. Read our feature on the festival and our choice of the best films: Great British Online Film Festival goes live in China.
