Police are investigating a shocking video of a gang of youths beating a teenager unconscious and urinating on him which was posted online this week.

Though initial reports suggested that the teenager had died as a result of the attack, the Beijing News interviewed him on Monday, injured but alive.

The attack is believed to have taken place in Beijing's Chaoyang district, and was uploaded to Youku on Saturday.

It appears to show four youths, including one filming the attack, slapping, punching and kicking another boy on the head, body and legs in a sustained assault lasting more than eight minutes.

Then one boy throws a large brick at the victim, striking him on the head.

The boy collapses to the ground, and as he lies motionless his attackers urinate on him, pictures show.

Police and security officials said they were investigating the attack and asked anyone with information to come forward.

Netizens launched a "human flesh search engine" to try and find the perpetrators, several of which were identified online.

Speaking to the Beijing Times, the victim said he was afraid the attackers would come after him if he went to the police. The victim said the attack took place after he witnessed the same gang beat another boy, and they believed he had informed on them.
