A 30 year old male primary school teacher has been arrested for allegedly raping 12 students in a school outside Bijie city, Guizhou Province, Beijing News reported Wednesday.

The fourth-grade teacher is accused of raping at least a dozen students from grades two, four and six at a school in Nanfeng village. The youngest victim is reported to be 8 years old. The man is said to be married and has a three-year-old child of his own.

The results of hospital examinations on the 12 victims have not been released, even to the children's parents.

The abuse reportedly started around 2012 when the teacher began taking his victims to a restroom next to his classroom and molesting them there, one parent of an alleged victim told reporters. The abuse went on for so long due to the children maintaining silence due to the teacher's intimidation tactics.

Most of the victims are reportedly "left-behind" children, coming from families of migrant workers employed in faraway cities, common in the mountain region of northwest Guizhou. The lack of supervision has led to incidents of abuse, neglect and misconduct involving children.
