Beijing authorities are mulling raising metro and bus fares in the city, CRI reports.
Zhoa Lei, vice director of the Beijing Development and Reform Commission, said that authorities "may learn from the experiences of other nations or cities regarding their approach to public transport management and introduce different kinds of tickets, for instance, weekly and bi-monthly tickets for commuters."
Currently, subway passengers pay 2 yuan ($0.3) per journey, regardless of distance. In Shanghai, the base fare is 3 yuan ($0.45) for journeys under 6 kilometres (3.7 miles) and then 1 yuan ($0.15) for each additional 10 kilometres (6.2 miles).
