A man has been detained for five days for telling officers at Beijing Capital International Airport that he had a bomb in his ass, after reportedly growing impatient with the wait to pass through security.

The man was anxiously waiting in line at Terminal 3, reports said, making complaints about the slow pace of security checks. When he reached the checkpoint, a security official asked him to remove his shoes. The man replied, "Do I need to drop my pants as well? I have a bomb in my ass", prompting the official to ask him to repeat what he said, which he did.

This led to a security alert being activated, and a full evacuation of nearby passengers, severely affecting the airport's operations and inconveniencing many travellers.

After being searched, police took the man to the nearest station, where he told them he hadn't anticipated the consequences of his remarks, explaining that he was angry with the security checks he deemed a waste of time.

The man could possibility facing a lengthy jail sentence if his disruption caused an economic loss of over 500,000 yuan ($80,000). Strict punishments were introduced in 2013 following a series of bomb hoaxes at airports.

Earlier this month, a 25 year old Chongqing man was jailed for three years after telling airport staff there was a bomb present. He was angry that his girlfriend was flying to meet another man in Inner Mongolia, Southcn.com reported.

In January, a Beijing doctor's plan was foiled when police found she had phoned a security hotline to say there was a bomb on a plane that she suspected her husband and his lover were flying on, Legal Evening News reported. She was jailed for six months.
