Where to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day 2019 in Beijing

Beijing loves an excuse to drink beer – and man, is St. Patrick’s Day an excuse to drink beer. This St. Paddy’s Day  falls on a Sunday, which means you'll probably have to show up to the office rocking a pair of dark shades the next morning. But it also means that some festivities will continue the following weekend to make up for it. This year’s celebrations include beer, music, and combinations of beer and music. Let's begin.

Paddy O'Shea's

Do we really need to explain this one? Everyone's favorite Irish pub is staying open the entire weekend.

Modernista is throwing not one, but two parties for the occasion. Swing by on Friday night to see Sons of Thunder, the high-energy band specializing in all your favorite 2000s hits. On Saturday night, Modernista will host Irish rock band Black Water for a special St. Patrick's Day celebration!

Fri Mar 15 & Sat Mar 16, 10pm; Modernista, see event listing here and here.

Xian

Xian at East is ready to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with a series of activities and deals on... beer, of course. Entertainment will be provided by a series of Irish music bands plus regular band Rivals. Meanwhile, The Craft Container will re-open on March 15 offering ten taps of Beijing's best craft beer, including Jing-A, Slow Boat and NBeer, to enjoy outside as the weather gets warmer. For the occasion, green beer will also be available.

Fri Mar 15-Sun Mar 17, 5pm-late; Xian @ EAST, see event listing.

Instead of the usual boozy celebrations, 4corners is challenging carefully selected teams to go head to head in an epic bake-off. The winning team will receive a cash prize of RMB500, a round of Foxes Rock beer, and a Foxes Rock basket of goodies as well as laurels for their merit. The second and third place teams will win even more money and free beer. A panel of judges and the public will decide the winner. Read all about the competition and the chosen contestants here.

Sat Mar 16, 3-6pm; 4corners, see event listing.

Mosto

Enjoy a boozy Sunday brunch at Mosto. Celebrate St. Paddy’s and the glorious weather with brunch on the newly opened Mosto terrace and half off their signature green cocktail, the Mosto, made with fresh lime juice, jasmine tea-infused rum, Chambord and green tea syrup. Plus, get half off all local beer throughout the day.

Sun Mar 17, 11am; Mosto, see event listing.

Red Rose

Beijing Foodies invite you to dress up for an Irish bash at Red Rose. Dress code: Green, duh. Featuring a photo booth with a professional photographer on-site, green drinks, a rich lucky draw and international young professionals, this party is probably the only event at which you can network while dressed in green from head to toe.

Sun Mar 17, 7-11pm; RMB80 (advance), RMB100 (door); Red Rose, see event listing.

Jing-A

Jing-A will be joining in on the celebration with a buy-one-get-one deal on their Black Velvet Vanilla Stout all Sunday long.

School Bar is keeping the holiday going strong into the following weekend with a night of swing vs. Celtic music featuring Black Water (round two anyone?) and Mr. Honey bringing the noise.

Sat Mar 23, 9.30pm; free entry; School Live Bar, see event listing.

Hulu

Hulu by TRB and Irish pub-turned-institution Paddy O'Shea's join forces to celebrate St. Patrick's Day for, well, a lot more than one day. From now until March 31 you can taste Guinness beef stew, a slow-braised beef cheek soaked in Guinness, for only RMB98 at Hulu and get a refreshing taste of Ireland for only RMB45 per glass. But since they're such a perfect couple, you should really consider getting both for the special price of RMB128.

Through Sun Mar 31; Hulu, see event listing.
