'Generation Gap' is a monthly series where we ask two Beijingers from two different generations their thoughts on a random issue. This time we ask Yu, 19 and Long, 50 their take on the future of China-Africa relations after the FOCAC Summit that took place in Beijing this September.

How do you see future relations between China and Africa in light of the recent FOCAC Summit that took place in Beijing?

"I think the partnership between China and Africa will have a hugely positive impact on both. As a college student, I think it’s really generous of the Chinese government to provide so many scholarships to African students. I already have many African classmates, but I would be excited to meet more in the future, as Sino-African relations develop further. In general, I think this conference acted as a bridge between China and Africa. I used to think they had nothing in common before, but now I'm starting to think it’s going to be a promising alliance. One thing I hope is that Africans coming to China might be able to benefit from the opportunities our country offers in the areas of business, trade, finance and education."

"I think a lot of TV watchers here in China are very interested in and well informed on this topic. I might not be one of them, but I think Sino-African relationships will definitely improve in the future. And I believe it’s not only going to happen on the political level, but also inside society at large, because I feel that we Chinese people don’t tend to have a strong ethnic bias."
