Mifan or Mafan: Chez Gérard

Fear no more: Chez Gérard is back and looks better than ever. Another shop caught up in last year’s brickings, the laowai-favorite grocery store left its original location on Jianchang Hutong for a roomier one on Beiluoguxiang, where it plans to become the new ‘hutong hangout.’ All the imported charcuterie and reasonably-priced booze are still here, while new additions include fresh fruit and vegetables, plus a countertop where you can order coffee (RMB20) or even – wait for it – cocktails (RMB35).
