June 21: Fête de la Musique

Fête de la Musique, the one-day music celebration that takes place all over the globe, hits Beijing this Thursday. As part of the event, Omni Space is hosting two riotous French bands –the noise-rock outfit Lysistrata and charismatic indie pop group Colours in the Street. Head over to Mao Livehouse in Wukesong for Pony Pony Run Run (pictured above), the highly irritable disco-flavored dance rockers headlining the gig with techno producer Ghost of Christmas performing later in the night. Among China's own talent are the legendary AV Okubo from Wuhan and Beijing’s own indie rockers Future Orients. It doesn't end there – catch Clea Vincent's alt-indie tunes at Yue Space. She'll be headlining alongside three Beijing acts.

Thu Jun 21, 8pm; free entry; various venues – Omni Space, Mao Livehouse, Yue Space.

Suuns are taking their latest record Felt on a China tour through Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen this month – their first foray onto the Mainland. The band is known for putting on an engrossing live show, bewitching audiences with their unclassifiable compositions – so it’s likely the music will speak for itself.

Sat Jun 23, 8pm; RMB147 (advance), RMB167 (door); Yue Space, see event listing.

June 23: Hedgehog

One of Beijing’s favorite indie rock outfits, Hedgehog, perform a hometown show this month. With music that draws from 2000s British indie, Hedgehog’s reputation has steadily grown over the past few years in both China and abroad, and the band has toured the US (with experimental rock band Xiu Xiu) as well as Australia and Europe. A triumphant return for the well-traveled trio.

Sat Jun 23, 8.30pm; RMB130 (advance), RMB180 (door); Omni Space, see event listing.
