5 Places to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Beijing

It appears as if Americans are the only people in the world who actually celebrate Cinco de Mayo. The Mexican holiday is a fairly sober commemoration of the Battle of Puebla in its native country, but just north of its border, it's a riotous, tequila-slinging party.

After all, who doesn’t love an excuse to drink margaritas and eat tacos? So for those of you who want to take part in this delicious – if obscure – holiday, there are a few places around town that plan to celebrate this Saturday.

Palms L.A. Kitchen and Bar

RMB15 tacos, Jing-A craft beer and DJs spinning some major jams to keep the patio fiesta going all day – it doesn't get much better than that!  Make sure to sport your best pink outfit for a free shot. Did we mention tacos already?

Sat May 5, 12-6pm; Palms L.A. Kitchen and Bar, see event listing.

Mesh @ The Opposite House

'Mesh into May' at The Opposite House this Saturday – with Slow Boat's Limey Lager and refreshing margaritas on offer, Mesh's terrace is a prime location to celebrate the holiday. Free snacks will be provided, as well as music by DJ Dirty Dishes.

Sat May 5, 5-8pm; Mesh @ The Opposite House, see event listing.

Q Mex Taqueria

Q Mex – El Presidente of Beijing's Mexican food scene – is celebrating Cinco de Mayo in the only way possible – lots of drinks deals. Grab a Cinco'rita – a Mexican Flag Margarita – for RMB55 or a Bandera shot (lime juice and Sangrita) for RMB45. To top it all off, you and all of your friends can get a bucket of ice cold Coronas for just RMB125. As an added bonus, all Micheladas at the Xinyuanli location are just RMB35 all night.

Sat May 5, Q Mex Bar and Grill & Q Mex Taqueria, see event listing.

Jing-A Brewpub

Jing-A is joining in on the festivities – the event coincides with the release of their new Party Beer Helles, so can enjoy a happy hour discount all night on the new brew. With the Party Beer discounted to RMB30 and Beergaritas reduced to RMB40, Jing-A's Cinco de Mayo celebration could turn out to become a very boozy affair. Make sure you keep yourself together by grabbing the BBQ brisket and pork tacos for just RMB15.

Sat May 5, Jing-A Brewpub, see event listing.

Home Plate BBQ

Home Plate has got some special Mexican drinks deals all night long for this Cinco de Mayo. You and the gang can grab six shots of the Cuervo Tequila or a bucket of five Coronas for RMB100. Classic and frozen margaritas will be going for RMB45 and RMB55 respectively.

Sat May 5, Home Plate BBQ Sanlitun, see event listing.
