Liangma Flower Market will close at the end of this month, according to an official notice posted on its front door. The market has been in operation for 20 years.

Shop owners inside the market were given one month’s notice to sell their remaining goods or find a new place to work. Some of the vendors will be moving to a new market near Solana, but most vendors who spoke with That’s said the rent at the new market is too expensive for them to relocate there.

Liangma Flower Market is the latest of many Beijing wholesale markets that have closed over the past year in the wake of the capital's efforts to cap its population and move non-essential businesses to Hebei. Iconic wholesale market Tianyi Market was shuttered in September, and the Zhonghe Market (or Beijing Zoo Market) closed last summer as well.

Liangma Flower Market has long been popular with both locals and expats in Liangmaqiao for its mix of flowers, antiques and quirky knick knacks at wholesale prices. It will be open through April 30.
