Nov 23: Sofia Jannok
Sofia Jannok hails from the Arctic area of Sápmi, which might explain her unique style -- pop music combined with traditional Sami joik. The singer-songwriter has been nominated for two Grammy awards. You can check out her smooth, melodic vocals at Yugong Yishan on Thursday night.
Thur Nov 23, 9-11pm; RMB150 (door), RMB120 (presale). Yugong Yishan, see event listing.
Nov 24: Birdstriking
Not long after the band first formed, Birdstriking had risen through the ranks of the Chinese capital’s rock clubs. In 2012, the then college-aged trio released their self-titled debut album, which was recorded by local hero Yang Haisong from P.K.14 via Maybe Mars. They're latest album Holey Brain sees the band veering in a new musical direction, with a more developed sound, albeit without the first album’s active courting of controversy.
Fri Nov 24, 9.30-11.30pm; RMB100 (door), RMB80 (presale). Yugong Yishan, see event listing.
Nov 25: Namgar + Rid
The new MAO Livehouse Wukesong has officially opened. This weekend Namgar and Rid will take the stage together to bring you a night of Mongolian and reggae music. Expect an energetic and unique night of fusion music.
