We’ve been coping with a nasty heatwave for nearly a week. The good news is we’re going to have a reprieve from the 35C plus temperatures for a few days. The not-so-good news is that the capital is bracing for some seriously heavy rains from Wednesday until Saturday.
Thunderstorms are expected to hit Beijing starting Wednesday. Although rainstorms are expected to drench the capital until Saturday, the heaviest rain will arrive on Thursday with forecasters predicting anywhere from 40mm to 150mm (that’s 1.5-6 inches for you Americans) in one day.
The Beijing Meteorological Bureau is warning people to stay away from rivers, reservoirs and other areas prone to flash flooding for the next few days. Last weekend, torrential downpours triggered a deadly landslide in a mountainous area of western Beijing. Five people died in the incident.
Good luck and stay dry everyone.
