Jun 7: Born of Osiris

Hailing from Chicago, heavy metal group Born of Osiris released their second EP The Eternal Reign earlier this year. If you're familiar with the band the new EP might sound a bit familiar. And that's because it's actually a reimagining of their first EP The New Reign. Born of Osiris will touch down in Beijing tonight (Wednesday) at Yugong Yishan. The Earthists will also perform.

Wed Jun 7, 8-10pm. RMB260 (door), RMB180 (presale). Yugong Yishan, see event listing.

Jun 9-10: Gerald Clayton

Pianist Gerald Clayton may have been born in the Netherlands, but he was raised in the US, home of jazz. The son of Grammy-winning jazz bassist John Clayton, young Gerald already has two Grammy nominations of his own. He plays Blue Note to celebrate the release of new record Tributory Tales.

Fri Jun 9 and Sat Jun 10, from 6pm; RMB250-450; Blue Note Beijing, see event listing

Jun 10: Grover

Here promoting his new album Let it Glow, French-born troubadour Rover (Timothée Régnier) went to the same New York school as members of The Strokes, though his sound owes more to The Beatles than his garage rock schoolmates.

Sat June 10, 8.30-10.30pm; RMB80 (presale), RMB100 (door); Omni Space, see event listing

Jun 10: Lite

'Math rock’ is now a well-established genre with a relatively clear definition (“a style of rock music characterized by complex rhythmic and instrumental patterns,” according to Merriam-Webster). But while the name can conjure images of cold, technical music, Japanese band Lite exudes warmth and emotion alongside the technical wizardry and playfulness associated with math rock. Formed in 2003, the Tokyo-based foursome have released five albums of dizzying instrumental music. Their output ranges from dense post-rock tracks like ‘Infinite Mirror’ to songs filled with bleeps, and elegant almost-ballads like ‘Rabbit.’ Lite’s upcoming China shows are part of an Asian tour to promote their most recent album, Cubic.

Sat Jun 10, 9pm; RMB120 (presale), RMB150 (door); Yugong Yishan, see event listing.

Jun 10: Casino Demons

Everybody's favorite indie rock band will be performing at Modernsky Lab on Saturday. They've spent the past year touring China with their signature upbeat tunes. This is sure to be a fun show.

Sat Jun 10, 8.30pm. RMB80 (advance), RMB100 (door). Modernsky Lab, see event listing.
