Mar 17: Miaou

Beijing seems to have a soft spot for experimental Japanese bands, and this month’s pick-of-the-bunch is Miaou. Around for almost 20 years, the three-piece instrumental band merge guitars with samples, synths and other digital goodies. This is certainly still post-rock, but Miaou’s flirtation with electronic music results in something altogether unique.

Fri Mar 17, 8.30pm; RMB180 (door), RMB130 (presale); Yugong Yishan, see event listing.

Mar 17-18: Nicole Henry

Hailing from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Nicole Henry was raised with music. She sang in school and church and studied the cello early on. Henry broke onto the music scene in 2004 and has since established herself as one of the jazz world's most acclaimed vocalists. Check out her passionate and soulful vocals at Blue Note this weekend.

Mar 17-18, 7.30-9.30pm; RMB280/380/480. Blue Note Beijing, see event listing

Mar 18: Vigor Classic Rock Festival

As billed, the Vigor Classic Rock Festival has an epic lineup of rock bands. Los Crasher, Scare the Children, The Glamor Manifesto, Old Leather, Click #15, Risky Joy, Last Stand Doer, Electric Lady, Tumor Boy and more will take the stage. For more information or to buy tickets, click here

Sat Mar 18, 9pm; RMB100 (presale) / RMB128 (door). Yugong Yishan, see event listing

Mar 18: Mike Watt

201703/mike-watt.jpg

Over the course of his brilliant four-decade career, Mike Watt has broadened the musical vocabulary of 80s hardcore and inspired the 90s alternative nation. Together with drummer George Hurley, he formed The Minutemen in 1980. While peers in the nascent hardcore scene, like Black Flag and Dead Kennedys, define punk rock’s militant sound, The Minutemen were just as influential. They incorporated disparate influences into the genre from country to funk, exemplified on their classic 1984 double album, Double Nickels on the Dime. Now, the American rock hero collaborates with underground artists stretching from Japan to Europe – and hopefully, soon, China. This time around he'll be performing at an intimate show at DDC.

Sat Mar 18, 9pm-late; RMB80-100; Dusk Dawn Club, see event listing.

Mar 18: Green 'N Spice

The Spice Cabinet liked to mix things up... literally. As always, the band will heat up the dance floor with their pop, jazz, hip-hop and funk inspired tunes.

Sat Mar 18, 10pm-1am; Free. Modernista, see event listing

Mar 19: Alpine Decline

After releasing acclaimed album Life's a Gasp and wrapping up a 25-city tour last year, Alpine Decline made their way back to Los Angeles. Fans will be excited to hear that Alpine Decline is returning to the Mainland to record a new album. And they'll be making a rare appearance at Yue Space on Sunday. Don't miss it!

Sun Mar 19, RMB60 (presale) / RMB80 (door). Yue Space, see event listing
